Get Up to Speed With Drupal 7 at DrupalCon Chicago!

Today is the day that many of us have been waiting for: the official release of Drupal 7! DrupalCon may still be two months away, but if you’re planning on attending, there are many sessions you can attend to help you get up to speed on the latest release.

The pre-conference training sessions are a great place to begin with some hands-on knowledge. The sessions are happening on Monday, March 7, 2011 in the University of Chicago’s Gleacher Center, right across the street from the conference venue. Here are some of the highlights:

Upgrading from Drupal 6 to 7
This session is great for anyone who has problems with change! Just kidding - but really, this is a great chance to learn the best steps to prepare for a successful site upgrade from Drupal 6 while watching the migration process on an actual site. You’ll also receive printed materials and a pre-prepared sandbox with code, files and database files to use in your own environments as you follow along.

Site Building with Drupal 7
Based on Jacob Redding's newly released book Beginning Drupal 7, this session walks you through the steps to create a site with Drupal 7 including creating new content types, adding images, creating custom profiles, managing users as well as walking you through Drupal 7’s new fields and functionalities. If you’re looking for a course to ramp up for the conference, this is a great option!

Site Building with Drupal 7
Presented by Drupal 7 co-maintainer Angie Byron, this session is a crash course in configuring and building content-driven web sites in Drupal, including the use of Drupal 7’s field module and creating simple displays of site content with the Views module.

Building Modules for Drupal 7
This session will get your hands dirty with some simple example modules and the dissection of more complex code - using these skills, you’ll learn how to build a simple module and investigate Drupal 7’s new database abstraction layer.

Of course, not all Drupal 7 sessions are during the pre-conference. Below is a sampling of announced Drupal 7-focused conference sessions, broken down by track. Click through on the links to learn more about the sessions and add them to your itinerary.
