Drupal Commerce: Setting up Shop on Drupal 7

Time slot:
March 10th, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Room:
Chicago 8 & 9
Track:
Implementation and Config
Experience:
Intermediate

Building Drupal powered e-commerce websites is more powerful than ever before with Drupal Commerce. Built to take advantage of Drupal 7's greatest new features, including a heavy dependence on the new Field system, the Commerce modules provide the tools and flexibility needed to build any type of e-commerce site on Drupal. In this session, all of the core Commerce systems will be introduced in a discussion that looks at the big picture of how they all work together. A technical demonstration will follow that demonstrates everything from installation and configuration to store administration and the customer experience. Any time remaining will be spent on Q&A, with attendees free to browse a demonstration site and/or explore a starter installation profile during and after the session.

Video at archive.org.

Intended audience:

This audience is geared toward intermediate Drupal site builders and developers. While we won't dive into code at all, we will be demonstrating and explaining core Field features and the contributed modules Views and Rules. Attendees should at least be familiar with these features to make sense of what's going on, but the demonstration should be suitable for all attendees.

Ubercart

Hi Ryan,

I will be attending your session next month, and just wondered if you will be covering Ubercart? Is that the module set you are referring to as "Drupal Commerce"? I have been teaching myself UC 2.0, and have the PACKT book on it. In any case, I'm very much looking forward to your session and lots of others as well!

OK...

A little online research and I've partially answered my own question. Still looking forward to learning more!

Hi Ryan, I missed your

Hi Ryan,

I missed your session at Drupalcon, but I am very interested in learning about Drupal Commerce. Are you planning to post your slides and/or the recording of your presentation?

Thanks,
Susan

Not in Chicago at all... :|

I wasn't there at all (stuck here in Denmark, I am), but I'm still very interested. I may have to make a commerce site very soon, but I've never messed with any of the pre-D7 solutions, so I figure I might as well go with Commerce from the get-go. Either way, this whole things looks like a bit of a jungle to me, so any help/guidance towards getting started, is appreciated. :)

From your demo, the order

From your demo, the order numbers still are numeric text as in ubercart. Could I customize the string pattern of order number in Drupal Commerce ?

Just now saw this comment.

Just now saw this comment. Yes, the Order Number is separate from the numeric Order ID, it just defaults to the same value. You can implement whatever logic you need to provide custom Order Numbers upon order creation or perhaps upon checkout completion (i.e. to have an unbroken chain of order numbers).
