Mary Howe

My academic background is in linguistics. I worked as a research professor in child language in the 90's.

Then I became an independent technical writer and instructional developer, working in a variety of areas. In the late 90's I began developing e-learning, first with Authorware, then Dreamweaver. Initially I did the instructional design and wrote content as well as development, but then decided to focus on the more interesting technical work.

I have done a great deal of corporate work. In 2008 made a conscious decision to work only for non-profits or companies whose values and vision I care about.

In 2009 I began my first Drupal site. I started with D5, but then almost immediately switched to D6. I only work in Drupal now.

I am a site builder, not much of a coder. I love CSS. I love solving problems. I can do seat-of-the-pants graphic design but prefer to leave design to someone who knows what he or she is doing.

Often in my projects I take the role of liaison between content developers and coders.
