Drupal Tower Sells Out Sunday and Monday; Other Nights Still Available

We’ve always had a sneaking suspicion that the Drupal community is incredibly active and strong but today, we’ve received rock-solid proof. The Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers has officially sold out of available rooms for the beginning of DrupalCon Chicago due to the demand by the Drupal community.

Last Friday, 1/14, saw a record-breaking amount of registrations in one day (286 - more than double the previous record of 114) and encouraged the extension of the early bird registration through today (1/21). Unfortunately, we've also found the number of available rooms at the Drupal Tower (also known as the Sheraton, but let’s not nit-pick) is not enough to house members of the enthusiastic community for the entirety of the event.

Rooms are still available for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but if you were looking to sneak into town a few days early and stay in the Drupal Tower, Sunday and Monday are no longer available.

The DrupalCon team is working diligently on a solution to find additional rooms for these nights and will announce it as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you haven't yet registered for DrupalCon Chicago, now is definitely the time to do so - our amazing Drupal community is growing larger and stronger each year!

how do we know if are booked?

Hey - amazing news and thanks for trying to find other solutions. Was wondering, how do we know if we got the room we asked for. I asked for accommodation alongside my registration but haven't heard back yet...

Sheraton Confirmation

Ronald: I received a confirmation email directly from Sheraton about four days after I registered for the conference.

No confirm here...

I registered for a hotel room on the site more than a week ago and never recieved a confirmation. When I signed up there, it said it might take 7-10 days, so I wasn't too concerned yet... but given the above, I am pretty sure now that I don't have a reservation at all, and that the registration process for getting rooms on the registration site was broken. I will also note that a few days after registering, I had called the Sheraton and they didn't have my reservation, so I logged in to the on-line registration system again and was able to see that my room request was till there. The Sheraton (as well as the site) said I should be patient, so I wasn't too concerned.... Now it appears that the hotel is full? I guess I don't have a reservation, and probably Ronald above doesn't either.

Luckily for me, another Drupaler with an actual room reservation contacted me and wanted a roommate, so I will not be homeless for the conference. But I think you might want to check on everyone who requested rooms via the official on-line registration and notify the people whose reservations were never made that the system screwed up and they will need to find another room.

I would also note that most of the people I have talked to who were successful in getting rooms did it by calling the Sheraton directly, not by using the (apparently flawed) process during conference registration.

Called Sheraton directly

Called Sheraton directly yesterday after no confirm for 10 days (registered on 14 Jan). The hotel rep informed me that my reservation via the drupalcon website had not been processed since there were no available rooms for Monday night. I imagine more than a few drupalers are in the same boat if you registered on or after 14 Jan.

I made a separate reservation directly with them for Tue-Thu and booked a different hotel for Mon night.

Bon courage.

I wanted to book a room and

I wanted to book a room and look at accomodation options but there was not obvious "ACCOMODATION" section on this website..

We'll be adding a list of other hotels to the site, but in the meantime, you can check out this post which details available nearby accommodation options:

intercontinental is out of rooms for the 6th in the conf rate

just booked my stay with the intercontinental. customer service was excellent. the lady reported there are quite a few of us staying there for drupal. they are out of room in the conference rate for the night of the 6th - important if you plan to go for the pre-conf sessions.... however, she was able to get me that same rate under a different reservation, so YMMV...
