United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) developed a social networking platform (Teamworks) for knowledge sharing and collaboration among staff and partners across UN agencies and duty stations.
The project uses the potential of corporately mainstreamed Social Media/Web 2.0 and social networking approaches and Drupal as the open source platform to support achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and to strengthen global and local partnerships across the UN system. It improves and expands UN-wide knowledge networks and the contextualization of knowledge and skills within UN agencies involved in regional and country-level development initiatives. Connecting to UN colleagues across UN agencies and across duty stations fosters inter-agency collaboration and access to expertise of UN staff in different places.
One of the basic tenants of UNDP to use Drupal and its open source framework is to harness the power of large and vibrant Drupal community. The application has extended Drupal’s core features using highly customized modules in order to provide cost effective and sustainable product which in turn can contribute back to the community.
