Visual Thinking for Drupal

Track:
Design and UX
Experience:
Intermediate

Designing a site well in Drupal can be a long and sticky process. What if there was a way to make it easier? Fun, even? In this session, you'll learn how to use mind maps, card sorting and other Visual Thinking techniques to rapidly iterate user profiles, site plans, strategy and more.

This isn't a drawing class; rather, it's a way to use visuals (even as simple as arrows pointing towards new ideas) to more effectively brainstorm elements of a site strategy with your team. This helps uncover and overcome roadblocks in the concepting process, as well as making it easier to organize information for rapid prototyping.

Intended audience:

This session is intended for designers, UX folks and any team that needs to rapidly iterate Drupal projects without compromising user experience, quality and strategy.

Clear defintions

Hey Dani,

I think this is a great session idea, however I am left wondering the methodology a bit. Your saying using visuals to communicate certain concepts, like who your users are, the UX strategy but then go on and talk about card sorthing (which is a validating method).

I think it might be good to clarify that the visuals are perhaps the communication part, at core is the actual method. It might be hard to cover each method indepth, but it might be confusing if you are jumping around from method to method without clear signage when you would use it in a project lifecycle and how clients respond to certain visuals.

If you have any questions, please contact me on IRC.

Hope it is selected!

Bojhan, The session isn't

Bojhan,

The session isn't meant as much to be jumping around from method to method as it is outlining a specific method, and illustrating at what point you'd use it in the project cycle. the methods themselves are more ways for you and the team to get your heads around parts of the project (card sorting, for example, can be used as a way of figuring out site architecture) than they are ways to illustrate concepts to clients.
