Time slot:
March 10th, 5:45 PM - 6:45 PM I'd like to start up a wireless mesh network in my town, based on open-source software such as OpenWRT. It can and has been done. I've been doing a little experimenting myself, and this upcoming week, I'll be going to Battle Mesh V4 to learn more.
Anybody with experience in wireless mesh networking? Anybody with interest, who wants to hear the small amount I've learned so far? Let's talk.
I envision a world where the internet is collectively owned in a distributed fashion, where we all have radios on our roofs. I'd like to see a world where the internet can't be shut down and can't be suppressed by governments or corporations.

Doh, this ended up being the same time as the i18n BoF. Would love to talk about Wireless mesh networking vis-a-vis the use of it in the OLPC project sometime.

I co-founded WasaiNet (http://gowasabi.net) in St. Louis, MO, which is indeed a mesh network running the OpenWRT-derivative ROBIN. So, yes, I'll be there.
I'd be curious to hear if anyone has played around with Coova's Hotspot module for RADIUS integration.

We tried this in Toronto. See https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Wireless_Nomad for details.
I personally wasn't involved in the mesh aspect, so I can't provide any more information.
