Counchsurfing / Hotel Room Shares

I was wondering if local-to-Chicago attendees and Drupalists might be willing to open their homes to some Drupalcon couchsurfers for the duration of the conference?

In case you're unfamiliar, couchsurfing.com is an awesome clearinghouse for folks traveling who would rather, for whatever reason, stay with in people's homes instead of in a hotel, hostel or other commercial lodging. It's an awesome group, and my kids and I have, separately and together, hosted lots of people on our "couches" (guest rooms, floors, hammocks) - and it has without exception been awesome, every time. I've met fascinating people, several with whom I've stayed in touch, and it's really fun to listen to their stories, share my city with them, etc. It's a great way to meet interesting new people, and in this case, it's a perfect fit because of our mutual interest in Drupal!

It strikes me that a Drupalcon is a great opportunity to bring a little of that spirit to the Drupal Community. We could use couchsurfing.com, or maybe just a special Forum Topic here, and do it informally.

Is anyone interested?

Another option might be postings for the sharing of hotel rooms for the conference (we're probably not going to be sleeping much anyway :-) - I'm sure this has been done before, but maybe we could have a formal Forum Topic for people interested in doing that?

Definitely interested

I would be interested in sharing a room with someone that doesn't snore (light sleeper here). $179/night is a little too rich for my blood. I'll also check out the couchsurfing. I couch surfed in Denver for DrupalCamp Colorado and stayed with a really nice family with the most awesome pets!

Thanks for posting Kelly.

Room share interest

I'm also interested in sharing a room with another female Drupaller. For the $179/night price you can apparently get a room with two double beds as one option (I just checked at the hotel registration site). I think I want to be in the conference hotel this time around -- usually I find a lower-priced hotel nearby... I'm open to that this time too, but it would need to be within a few blocks.

I cannot guarantee I don't snore, since I'm never listening when I sleep, and I'm likely to be out until midnight or so at the Coder lounge and up pretty early (I don't sleep much). So I'm not sure I'm the perfect roommate -- full disclosure!. :)

I'll be arriving sometime on Monday and leaving sometime on Friday, so I would need a room for Monday through Thursday night.

Sadly only need 3 nights

Update: flying in Tuesday morning so only 2 nights hotel. Still willing to share though!

I'd be interested, but I'll only be staying Mon-Thursday. If there's another female Drupaller who would be interested in sharing (at the Sheraton) for 3 nights, let me know!

Found rommate

Just a note that I've found a room share.

male roommate sought

Sorry to not respond to the two prior roommate requests, but I'm sure my wife would prefer I get a male roommate. ;-) I've gone ahead and reserved a room with two double beds. Contact me if you're interested in sharing!

Roommate

I'm still negotiating logistical details with my company but I would be interested in sharing a room if I can get their approval. I would contact you directly but I'm not seeing a way to do so.

roommate found

Thanks for your reply, Tyler! I just found out a former colleague of mine will be sharing my room, but thanks anyway! And you're right, there doesn't seem to be any way to contact other forum users off list. :-S

Alternate means of contacting

It's not super-straightforward, but the username for a user on this site should match the one on the main drupal.org site. If you find the user profile on drupal.org and the contact form is enabled, that's a way to contact someone directly.

Air B&B for Chicago

Highly recommend looking at http://www.airbnb.com/search. There are a number of locations. Especially recommend Craig and Kathleen's place. It's on the train line in a gritty ethnic neighborhood. Cheap and charming: http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4505

edit: Roommate found.

Still needing to find a roommate

Finally getting back to this. I'm still needing to find a female roommate for the conference. I'll be arriving Monday afternoon and leaving Friday early morning. I don't plan on being in the room much as I hope to be picking brains in the coder lounge when I'm not attending sessions. I don't smoke and don't drink. I'm open to staying at the Sheraton or another nearby hotel. I haven't booked a room yet.

Drupal name is micnap. And I'm bluefrog2451 in IRC.

Thanks,
MIckey

Looking for Drupalcon hotel roommate

I have a room at a nearby hotel that I am looking to share with a male roommate.

Male Roommate sought - Tower

Hey folks.

I originally got a hotel room with a queen bed for myself and my wife, but due to some life changes, she's not coming along after all. Anyone interested in sharing a room?

John

Possible room share

Me = 50, male, non-smoker, snores - otherwise quiet person. Maintains relatively normal hours, even during a conference. (I'm ugly on < 7 hrs sleep / night.) Would be interested in sharing a room with someone who's not looking to 'party' for three days.

If interested, please let me know!

Possible room share from Sun 6th for 7 nights; checkout Sun 13th

If an invoice clears OK early next week I get to come to Chicago yay!

I looked on airbnb but must admit as I don't know the place and just want somewhere nice to rest my head for the three or so hours a night sleep I'll be getting so would prefer a hotel room close to the drupal towers.

I'm coming from the UK, I *do* snore, so light sleepers need not apply!

I also smoke (happy to not smoke in hotel but I understand smell travels...) and have been known to drink the occasional Awesomesauce ;)

On http://www.travelrepublic.co.uk/ I see the 5* Conrad Chicago Hotel has twin rooms for £614 so that would be £307 each, if they have any left by the time I get paid! Also happy to stay in Intercontinental (the conference's 2nd choice) but online booking says it's all booked up :( Other suggestions welcome...

Mail me at steve@purkiss.com if you're interested. I won't be able to confirm until early next week but thought I'd post now so we don't cut it too fine.

UPDATE: I now have a room share, thanks for all the replies!

Looking for a room mate in the Tower

Room mate found.

Swap my king room for one with 2 beds in the Tower?

I'm in somewhat of the opposite situation - I got a roommate but had originally booked a room with one king bed. If anyone has a non-smoking room in the Sheraton Tower with two beds but doesn't have a roommate and would prefer a king, we'd love to swap.

Contact me at kelley [at] brightbold [dot] com on the off-chance you've ditched your roomie and want to sleep alone.

Looking for a roommate @Tower, arrive Monday, leave Thursday

I have a room with two double beds at the Towers. I'm a nonsmoker and if I party, it will not be in the room. I would love a roommate to split the costs for the room. You can use the contact form or email me at adam [at] uxinteractive [dot] com.
