Deep-dish pizza showdown

I've visited Chicago before and was impressed with some of the deep-dish pizzas (known as "pies") in Chicago. If anyone is interested in gathering for some deep-dish diving then reply here.

Gino's East, Giordano's, Lou

Gino's East, Giordano's, Lou Malnati's, and Pizzerias Uno and Due all have locations within walking distance of the Drupal Tower and all are awesome!

Each pizzeria has their own spin on the deep dish and different folks have different favorites. Uno is the original, Gino's is famous for their crust, Giordano's does stuffed pizza with lots of cheese, and Malnati's focuses on toppings. There are plently of other deep dish places as well, but these are the most famous.

Be sure to study the

Be sure to study the different types of Chicago-style pizza...

Personally I'm partial to Giordano's spinach stuffed pizza. A single 12" weighs as much as probably 3 large Domino's pizzas. :)

A lot of food

Some of the good joints get you a bunch of food before the pizzas are ready since the deep dish ones can take 30 minutes to cook at least, leaving you eating tons of pre-pizza eats. Expect to get stuft!

Not Giordano's!

Ugh..the crust tastes like cardboard at Giordano's (probably contributed to them filing bankruptcy!). It definitely shouldn't be where someone coming to Chicago for the first time goes. Gino's has the better crust, and when pizza is that thick the crust has to be tasty.

For the love of god

Please, please do not go to Uno's. Everyone who comes to town thinks they need to go there, but IT IS TERRIBLE. Giordano's is where it's at.

If you like cardboard with sauce and cheese

Because that's what Giordano's gives you. Nice thick slice of cardboard

I've been recommended to try

I've been recommended to try Lou Malnati's. Wouldn't go to Uno's. We have one local and, while I'm sure the Chicago Uno's is better, I don't think I'd want to go to a place I could go to in my hometown.

I love Chicago deep dish pizza

Please count me in! Actually, I live in Chicago but I want to use this as an excuse to partake if there is a group going to Lou's, Giordano's, or Art of Pizza (train travel required). It's teeth grinding weather here with icy rain yesterday and snow today so a nice pizza pie will warm you up (can't say the same for the drinks, maybe if you are European?)

Count me in as well!

Just let me know the time and I'll be there :D

Anyone want to go to one before opening reception tonite?
