Greetings,

At the risk of sounding like the chubby vegan in the room worried about his noms (you know how THOSE people are): Is there a resource on hand to list what will actually be served at the on-site lunches? I've checked the "vegan" option, but am curious to discover what I'm actually getting in to this time round. =o)

Hmm...

Greetings,

I've found nothing on the site or resources that indicates where I might look or call to find out what is being served at the lunches. Does anyone have a spare clue they could toss at me?

The lunch menus are still

The lunch menus are still being finalized, but the current plan is that there a variety of buffet options available on Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday's lunch will be a bag lunch. It's unlikely that we will have any more detailed information available before the conference, but we are committed to taking care of our vegan attendees.

Lunch for Pre-Conference Training Sessions?

Is the lunch provided on Monday?

Thanks,

SMhatre

I hate to say it...

Greetings,

So, the "vegan" lunch really missed the mark today. My first clue that things were amiss was the big container of Jello; for those not in the know, Jello is not cruelty and suffering free, being made of -- wait for it -- gelatin, which is essentially the ground bones (and other left-overs) of various animals.

Then there was the potato salad, which it turns out was made with (wait for it) mayonnaise; for those not in the know, eggs generally appear high in the ingredients list for mayonnaise, and it turned out the mayo used in this case was no exception. In case there's any confusions, eggs are also way outside the boundaries of cruelty and suffering free "products".

What we WERE served was... well... not that exciting. The salad was fairly plain, and I'm not entirely sure that the provided dressing was vegan. Why do people always default to a salad for vegans anyway? There is a big wide world of food options out there, and most of it is vegan, and a salad just is not satisfying as a "entrée".

Adding insult to injury, my non-vegan co-diners received apples - WHOLE APPLES - in their lunch boxes as well as a pasta salad with an oil and vinegar dressing along with potato chips that had exactly three ingredients (potatoes, vegetable oil, and sea salt)... What gives?! How did the vegan lunches not get the whole fruit?! Heck - the apple would have made a more satisfying entrée than the salad!

So... I hate to say it -- I really do -- but I was right to have asked after what would be actually be served as vegan options, and I was wrong to stop short of asking for an itemized list.

That said, I did stop by the concierge desk on my way out today, and they very kindly summoned the correct authority for me to speak with about the issue. They apologized for the mix up, and ran down the list of what would be served for the remaining two days (quinoa tomorrow!). As far as I could tell from the verbal run down provided, we're going to be good to go.

Here's hoping,
