Time slot:

American psychologist, Abraham Maslow proposes a hierarchy of needs to describe human fulfillment. Basic physiological needs must be satisfied before higher tier emotional needs can be met or even considered. Applying this model to interface design creates a similar hierarchy of needs that can be used to create a better UX.

An product needs to first be functional; it must perform the task set forth. It must then be reliable; a user needs to trust that the product will fulfil its function. Then we reach the tier where most UX design ends. The product needs to be usable; users should be able to find a clear path to achieve their goals. At a higher level, the user experience can be be delightful. Users need to be able to reliably perform a task with ease... and they need to enjoy the process as well.

This session will detail how the user’s experience can be elevated from usable to enjoyable. We’ll look at where and how this has been achieved previously and how we can apply similar techniques ourselves to bring the same level of UX to our sites, modules, and themes.
